Servers[edit]
Inferno[edit]
Thunderbird 850 MHz. Asus A7V133A, purchased 2001-03-02.
Maintenance[edit]
2005-05-14 Hard Drive Upgrade[edit]
Installed 120 GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 (6Y120L0) and reinstalled OS. Based on the date this was likely FreeBSD 5.3.
2007-07-12 6.2-RELEASE-p5[edit]
Added serial console for easier management. Performed source upgrade from 6.1 to 6.2-RELEASE-p5. Not sure when the upgrade was done from 5.3 to 6.1 or how many increments were in between. Such details are lost to history.
2008-01-09 Heat Sink and Fan Replacement[edit]
Replaced Heat Sink and Fan (Evercool Socket A). Previous fan died. Inferno didn't like this much.
2008-02-18 Hard Drive Upgrade[edit]
Previous hard drive Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 (6Y120L0) serial: Y35AK8PE was quickly failing. Added Promise SATA300 TX4 4-port SATA II PCI controller card and Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 SATA 3Gb/s NCQ 750GB 32MB Cache (ST3750330AS)
During the upgrade, updated the system from FreeBSD 6.2 to FreeBSD 7.0 RC2.
2008-02-26 Upgrade to FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE[edit]
Upgraded from FreeBSD 7.0-RC2 to 7.0-RELEASE. First successful cross-release upgrade using the new freebsd-update utility. Nice!

Networking Gear[edit]
2008-12-15[edit]
Replaced my aging D-Link DSS-5+ (purchased 2008-12-10) with a D-Link DGS-1008D. Ran out of ports and figured it was time to start running gigabit gear. 7 years of use out of a $70 switch that still works, not bad!

Sony Vaio[edit]
- Model - VGN-NR280E/S
- Serial - S01-3002176-5
- Purchased - 2008-03-29
Naturally, the first thing I did on receipt of this fine piece of equipment is wipe the drive clean of all the Vista nastiness. For completeness sake, it would probably make sense to order some recovery CDs in the event I ever need to use the Vista license I unwillingly payed for (Damn MS tax).
According to Sony eSupport Knowlodge Article C342190, Canadians can order recovery CDs by contacting (416) 499-1414.
Accessories[edit]
- 2008-03-31 picked up a carrying case, the VAIO Corporate Case VGPEMBCC01. Sweet, though pricey.
